Summary Notes By Chairman Edward Campbell
Hi

The 2006 Conference in Shanghai was very successful.  Critical connections were made for future research.  Mary Lai and the Mind Measurement Education Association's (MMEA's) data base became open for sharing with both myself and the Israelis of Dr. Arnold Holtzman's Psychodiagnostic Chirology (PDC) school.  It was readily apparent that the PDC school, with its emphasis on hand morphology, and the MMEA school in the far east, with its emphasis on palmar and plantar dermatoglyphics, are highly complimentary.  Anat Levy and Amiram Me' Oded, both teachers and practitioners of Psychological Chirology explained more of its operations and presented case studies.  Dr. Wang Chen xia brought into focus her work in medicine utilizing hand analysis almost exclusively for diagnostic purposes with an interesting study of Einstein's hand correlated to his medical history.  Jon Mile presented an introduction to Denny Johnston's Rayid method of iris analysis.  Fritz Pang, an educational psychologist of many years and student of Mary Lai,  presented material relevant to the educational uses of behavioral and medical biometrics.   So much of the broad theme of Behavioral and Medical Biometrics was presented.

Fritz Pang and his staff at the New Horizon's Development Center in Shanghai and Hong Kong, including James Fong, and very helpful, ever present when you needed her, Irene Tsang provided for our every conference need and Mary's friend Ginny helped Irene with the translations.   Some of the material will become available on the
www.IBMBS.com  web site and some will become available on the new PDC web site www.chirology.org.. Some may end up on both web sites.

Mary Lai presented a professional study comparison of 30+ children suffering from Downs Syndrome with about the same number of children who suffered learning disabilities .  The study showed clear dermatoglyphic differentiation using her methodology.  The use of her data base will help us to increase those types of studies.  Progress has been made in overcoming the English - Chinese Translation barriers.

Dr. Henryk Rostowicz, PH.D. has assumed the direction of the
www.chirology.org  web site and e-zyme and is inviting articles for it.  Henryk hosts five sites.   He is assisted by Eran Maresse and his wife Judith Rostowicz as editors, who are both trained by Dr. Holtzman, PH.D., in his work in PDC and are psychological therapists.  Dr. Holtzman's school was represented by 6 practitioners and another guest.

Jon Miles will be taking over the position of webmaster of the
www.ibmbs.com site in the next couple of months, though I will continue to be a source for input and policy direction.  Jon is trained as a software developer and is webmaster of other sites.

We had a number of guests at the conference including the managing director of an Asian human resource acquisition, placement and development firm, a panel doctor with a medical consulting company, and a chairman of a Chinese biochemical company.  I had the pleasure of meeting the president of the Chinese Palmistry Association who is a professor and member of the former Dermatoglyphics Association.  There is a good possibility that I may return to Shanghai this summer for a medical conference and have an opportunity to further widen and strengthen these relationships.

Jon Miles spent ten years as an opthamological researcher at the University of Michigan.  He expects a high degree of mathematical precision in our approach to the study of Medical and Behavioral Biometrics.  He builds precision cameras for the study of the eye.  We are working on applying his technical training and rigorous standards to capturing the data in the hands, feet and eyes, and in the future, face, lips, ears and tongue for example. As well as other biometrically measurable attributes of the human anatomy.  We hope to start sharing some of our work soon in appropriate journals.  The first work to be published will probably be on non-distorted hand morphology.  Jon likes to measure down to the millimeter or finer.  We will probably use some Nikon camera equipment, 7 or 8 mega-pixel (so I need to upgrade my camera).

The next conference will be held in Europe or Turkey, either in early June or in July-August, 2007.  We are trying to schedule the time so that those who have academic duties can attend.  We will try to chose the place for good food (the Chinese food was sumptuous) and reasonably priced quarters as well as conference accommodations.  I would like to have the location firmly established by this June, hopefully by the first.  If you can help, please contact me ASAP at ed@edcampbell.com or ed@ibmbs.com. Also, if you are looking for a free pass to attend the conference and are willing to work, there may be some openings.

We are looking for sponsors for the society, web site and next year's conference.  Those who develop and produce scanners, cameras and optical recognition equipment should seriously consider sponsoring us as Jon and I and all of Mary's associates in China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Malaysia and perhaps all the PDC's in Israel and soon many more will want precision quality units capable of full finger, palm and wrist scans.  IBMBS is a fully recognized 501 (c)(3) tax exempt organization.  I and Jon would like to test some of the equipment in our current standard's studies.  Given the industrial and commercial interest shown in Shanghai, it will not be long before our field will be one of the largest markets for these units.  Smart marketing managers will establish an early relationship with us as we establish and apply bench marks for testing the accuracy and ease of use of their products.  If you want to sponsor or know one who we should contact for sponsorship, contact me at ed@edcampbell.com or ed@ibmbs.com.

We ask that those who have not participated in our two previous conferences send us your original papers before December 31, 2006.  Those chosen to make presentations or otherwise participate in presentations will not be charged for attending the conference. We expect high quality papers, prepared in formats such as PDF, and emphasizing real research.  Direct any preliminary question to me.   Honorariums will be considered, but cannot at this time be guaranteed until we know what income we can attract form attendance and sponsorship.  We will post more on this as time progresses.
